¿Can corals teach us self recognition? ¿Can we as societies thrive in collective manners or are we doomed to die bleached?

Trachyphyllia coral or brain coral is an example of individual corrallites fused together, they function and live as one, as a result they create a complex and stunning shape that is easily distinguished in the coral world. They practice symbiotic relationships such as the one with a photosynthetic algae and live sometimes free, sometimes in dead jail aquariums. Having genes similar to humans such as immunity, cellular self destruction and healing process as well as being resilient in a destructive environment that kills us slowly day by day. In corals its bleaching, in the daily life of humans is abiding with the structures of oppression. 

This series is made with the archive photographs from the Australian coral researcher and taxonomist JEN (“Charlie”) Veron, and photographs from a collective healing dance alternative session from Cuerpxs Cotidianxs (Chile, Barcelona), the images are put together to analyze how we survive, heal and continue living through the collective force as well to invite on the reflection of the bleaching of corals in the world due to capitalist ways and therefore destroying all ways of living, including human lives.

¿Pueden los corales enseñarnos el auto-reconocimiento? ¿Podemos nosotros como sociedades prosperar en maneras colectivas o estamos condenados a morir blanqueados?

El coral Trachyphyllia o coral cerebro es un ejemplo de corallitas individuales fusionadas entre sí, que funcionan y viven como uno, como resultado crean una forma compleja y deslumbrante que se distingue fácilmente en el mundo del coral. Practican relaciones simbióticas como la con una alga fotosintética y viven a veces libres, a veces en acuarios de cárcel muertos. Tener genes similares a los humanos como la inmunidad, la autodestrucción celular y el proceso de curación así como ser resistentes en un entorno destructivo que nos mata lentamente día a día. En los corales su blanqueamiento, en la vida cotidiana de los seres humanos se adhiere a las estructuras de opresión.

Esta serie está hecha con las fotografías de archivo del investigador de corales y taxonómico australiano JEN ("Charlie") Veron, y fotografías de una sesión colectiva de danza alternativa de sanación de Cuerpxs Cotidianxs (Chile, Barcelona), las imágenes se juntan para analizar cómo sobrevivimos, sanar y seguir viviendo a través de la fuerza colectiva, así como para invitar sobre el reflejo del blanqueo de los corales en el mundo debido a las formas capitalistas y por lo tanto destruir todas las formas de vida, incluyendo vidas humanas.
